Lion Dancing & Firecrackers during Lunar New Year

Crowd and lion during Cabramatta Lunar New Year 2025.

Lions and string firecrackers reopen the shops and restaurants to banish evil from the old and bring in good luck and fortune for the New Year.

You will see businesses decorated in red with lanterns, ornaments, and flowers such as marigolds.

Lion dancing and string fireworks in celebration of Lunar New Year will be held from Saturday, 7 February until Sunday, 8 March 2026 in Cabramatta Town Centre.

Businesses wishing to arrange lion dancing and string fireworks will need approval from Council.

String fireworks in Dutton Plaza are restricted to Sunday, 22 February and Saturday, 28 February 2026.

The restrictions are in place to help with the control of fire systems, which are activated by smoke.

Dutton Plaza will celebrate the Lunar New Year on Sunday, 22 February, between 11:00 am and 12:00 pm.

Lion dancing is welcome throughout the Lunar New Year period.
